About Us
The Commonwealth Buddhist Council is a Government-registered and recognized institution under Act No. PV00298721 of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, enacted in act no. 07 of 2007 and other Regional NGO registration sections of the Democratic and Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The founding Secretary General is Dr. Samudaya Bhanuka Wimalasooriya with Founder President Most Ven. Theppanawe Piyadassi Thero in 2016. The sacred relics of the Lord Shakyamuni Buddha, which were enshrined in the land of Siam (present-day Thailand), were brought to Sri Lanka on the 13th of July 2016.

The Council Raised 12 Million
The Council raised 12 million in 2024 and 8 million in 2023. Furthermore, educational materials were distributed to children from underprivileged families, ensuring support for their learning needs. We take humble pride in all these accomplishments.
our Council carried out numerous religious and social service activities. Among the most significant is the enshrinement of the established Ūrṇaloma Dhātu, which holds the highest commercial value in the world, at the Sri Sudarshanārama Viharaya in Urumutta and which is made by 108 of Natural Gem stones, Gold, and Silver with an amazing 192-carat Violet Amethyst Crystal, and It was enshrined on the forehead urna (nālaltala) of a 108-foot-tall Buddha statue adorned with 88 riyans of height.

The Chief Incumbent of the Raja Pujitha Bopath Samadhi Dharmayathana temple in Kuruwita, Chief Incumbent of Siripa Arama temple Kuruwita, and The chief Secretary of the Kuruwita Sāsanārakshaka Bala Mandalaya.
Chief Incumbent of Paramananda Pirivena, took over the responsibilities of the Vihara in 2007. His vision was to unite the village and the temple, sparking a religious revival.
The honourable founder/ Secretary General, Dr. Samudaya Bhanuka Wimalasooriya was born in Matara, Sri Lanka. His primary and secondary education was done at Rahula College, Matara.
